What to do and see



Because of its uniqueness, Barcelona has three main attractions spread around the city center that cannot be overlooked. The first one is Old Town where the Gothic Quarter, La Ribera district and Born Market are located. The most popular and visited monument in the city is Sagrada Familia, a famous cathedral. The seaside is also one of the preferred parts of Spain that attracts many tourists. You can admire the beautiful waterfront and coastline in the Olympic Port. Numerous shops, outdoor terraces and discos which fill the area and it is all for the entertainment of the visitors or tourists. But this is not all you can find! Below you can see a few more important attractions that make Barcelona a beautiful, cultural and historic place.


La Sagrada Familia

The building is located in the city center of Barcelona and it is visited by over fifty million people every year. It has always been an impressive church, and it was over a hundred years ago that the building was being constructed with money from donations. La Sagrada Familia is the most famous creation of the architect Antonio Gaudi and you will be amazed by the views offered if you climb the winding spiral staircase.


Picasso Museum

Pablo Picasso is the most famous artist that Barcelona is proud of and he is also the most celebrated figure of Spain. He lived in Barcelona and that is one of the reasons why the Picasso Museum is located in Barcelona. Casa de l'Ardiaca

It was constructed in the 16th century, over an ancient Roman wall, and it once was the archdeacon's residence. An outstanding piece is the gothic-style central fountain located in its courtyard.


L'Aquarium de Barcelona

La Rambla

Port Vell

Tibidabo

Looking to the north, Tibidabo is the highest point in Barcelona. At 512 meters above the sea level, it has an amusement park where many locals come to have fun.


Barcelona Aquarium

The tourists seem to be enjoying themselves here, making Barcelona Aquarium, located in Port Vell, one of the most visited attractions of the city.


Barcelona Zoo

This is the top attraction for children but not only, and it has a great number of animals for you to see.


Placa Catalunya

Monument a Colom

The monument was created in the memory of the explorer Christopher Columbus. You can see it if you decide to take a walk 20 minutes from La Rambla.


Barceloneta Beach

Passeig de Gracia

It's an important road in Barcelona. You can find on both sides charming boulevards where Gaudi left two of his creations: La Pedrera and Casa Battlo.

It was founded in 1930 and it's an original place to shop in for things you need for your home and you can do this at the ground floor of Vincon. On the next floor you can find a beautiful display of furniture that will make you rethink the way your home is decorated.

In Barcelona you can also find bookshops and FNAC is one of them. You can find it in L'Illa and in Plaza Catalunya. Here you can find film developing, music, books, news and magazines.

Events calendar


EIBTM

This is an annual meeting of expert panellists and it takes place from the 1st of December to the 3rd of December. Here people can be advised by the experts and discuss trends, make new contacts and renew the old ones and learn how to improve their business.


Fira de Santa Llucia

This is an annual Christmas fair and, dating from 1786 and held outside Barcelona Cathedral. The most loved feature of Fira de Santa Llucia is caga tio, similar to a Mexican pinata. The caga tio comes from Catalan mythology and it's about Christmas tradition.


BAC!

The Barcelona International Festival of Contemporary Art is held in December and representatives from galleries all over the world come here.


Gigling Guiri

This annual event is held from January 24 to December 21 and for one or two days a month, usually on Saturdays, top comedians come up to the stage in Cafe Teatre Llantiol and show what they've got.


Procession of the Three Kings

It is locally called 'Cabalgata los Reyes Magos' and it's a Christmas tradition of the Hispanics. People gather at the Moll de Fuesta to see the three kings' arrival and it is held every year on the 5th of January.


Sa Pobla

This event is held in January and you can see drummers, costumed singers and red dancing devils. Sa Pobla is celebrated by residents in the Majorca District of Barcelona.


Barcelona Half Marathon


The marathon takes place every year in February and it is only the warming up for the citizens before the big marathon that takes place in March. It is a 21,097 meters race and it is from Passeig de Picasso Street to the Arc de Triomf.


Carnival in Barcelona

The carnival is also held in February and it is a fun event where you can watch tortilla-making competitions and the 'Gran Rua de Carnaval' parade. The Catalonians are experts when it comes to spicy sausages that explode on your tongue. The streets are filled with party-lovers and it becomes a stage for a great show.


International Percussion Festival of Catalonia

It is held in February and performers all over the world come here to show off their skills.


Barcelona Marathon

This marathon is held every year in early March. It was first held in 1977. From Badalona to L'Hospitalet thousands of runners go right through the city. The Marathon starts at the Avenida Maria Cristina below the hill of Montjuic and it ends here as well.
